Medinah Park District celebrates new-look park in Roselle
Medinah Park District will celebrate the grand reopening of its renovated Springhill Park during a party from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Glendale Road and Sunnyside in Roselle.
Executive Director Bruce Baum said the district spent $253,000, including grant money, to spruce up the three-acre park with new playground equipment, parking spaces, landscaping, sidewalks and a pavilion. Before the facelift, the park housed aging playground equipment, a small baseball backstop and some landscaping.
"And that only took up a small portion of the overall acreage of the park," Baum said. "And none of that was accessible from an (Americans with Disabilities Act) standpoint."
Baum said the district's master plan calls for all new and updated sites to be fully ADA accessible.
The revamped park now has two large-scale playscapes, one designed for youngsters 2 to 5, and the other for kids 5 to 12.
There are also some separate pieces, including swings.
Besides the new pavilion, the district installed benches, a five-stall parking area and a sidewalk system that connects to nearby properties, Baum said.
"This is by far is our busiest park site, as far as the amount of usage, largely because of the rental and condo properties to the north," he said.
Although the grand opening is set for Sunday, Baum said the park has been open to families for weeks now.
"The transformation from what was to what is now is just a night and day difference," he said.
