Give Rauner chance to prove himself

There's little doubt that both Pat Quinn and Bruce Rauner have closets full of rattling skeletons. But those old bones shouldn't be what determines the upcoming election. It also shouldn't be about who is the most likable or the most patriotic.

Our state's serious financial troubles, due to decades of dishonesty and generally poor management, call for a governor who has the management skills, the experience and hubris to at least make a real run at straightening it out. We already know that Quinn isn't up to the job. In spite of his expertise at finding TV cameras to stand in front of and his habit of publicly signing small special interest bills, his accomplishments are really lacking compared to the improvements that have occurred in most other states.

So let's give Rauner a shot at it. You may not like some of the things he may have done to achieve his current status, but he has proved he knows how to accomplish a goal. This isn't a popularity contest, so just bite the bullet and vote for Rauner.
