Barrington Scarecrow Festival takes place Oct. 11

Barrington's 14th annual Scarecrow Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, in Memorial Park on South Hough Street.

More than 500 people are expected to attend. Free activities for children include scarecrow building, pumpkin painting, pony rides, arts and crafts, balloon animals, face painting, cookie decorating, inflatable games, children's games and more.

Bob the DJ will be on hand to delight the crowd with his special costume and favorite spooky songs. Materials for scarecrows will be provided, and festivalgoers can bring clothing and accessories to personalize their creations.

Kooker's Restaurant will be on hand with lunchtime fare, including grilled hot dogs, burgers and brats, chips and drinks, available for purchase. Kaleidoscoops will be there with ice cream for sale.

And there's still time to vote for your favorite scarecrow from more than 80 around the village.

Merchants, offices and schools have created original scarecrows to adorn their store fronts and businesses. Residents and visitors are invited to vote through Oct. 31 at the village website, www.barrington-il.gov.

Click on the Quick Link labeled Scarecrow Voting. Photos of all of the scarecrows will be posted. Click on the photo of your favorite scarecrow, hit "send" and a vote will automatically be cast. Vote for as many as you like.

Winners will be announced on the website Monday, Nov. 3.
