Gander Mountain opens in Algonquin

Gander Mountain, calling itself the nation's largest and fastest growing network of outdoor specialty stores, opens a new facility in Algonquin today.

The 52,000-square-foot store is at 1400 S. Randall Road, adjacent to the Walmart Supercenter. It will be the seventh Gander Mountain store in Illinois, joining existing stores in Geneva, Joliet, Rockford, Peoria, Springfield and Champaign.

"Gander Mountain is already a well-known and trusted name in Illinois among those who love the outdoors, and who enjoy great traditions like hunting, fishing, hiking, boating and camping," President and CEO David Pratt said. "We are thrilled to bring a new Gander Mountain store to Algonquin, and give more of our friends in Illinois opportunities to experience our top-quality gear and knowledgeable service at great prices."

The Algonquin store will feature one of the largest selections of new and used firearms in Illinois, plus a huge selection of gear and accessories for hunting, fishing, camping, boating and archery. The store will offer an extensive selection of men's and women's active performance outdoor and casual apparel featuring brands such as North Face, Columbia, Under Armour, GSX, Carhartt, Guide Series and Kuhl, and a wide variety of men's and women's active footwear.

"We're excited to welcome Gander Mountain to Algonquin," Village President John Schmitt said. "Their decision to locate in our community reaffirms that Algonquin is a desirable place to do business."

The store will feature everything an outdoor enthusiast will need for hunting, hiking, fitness, camping and more.

Though only the second store in the suburbs, it will mark the second one located on Randall Road. The other suburban Gander Mountain is at 2100 S. Randall Road in Geneva.

The St. Paul, Minnesota-based company added 15 stores this year, according to GanderMountain.com.
