Deferred prosecution in Schaumburg drug case

A Cook County judge dismissed drug charges against one of two men arrested on drug charges last July in a parking lot at Schaumburg's Woodfield Mall, court records show.

Judge Joseph Cataldo dismissed charges against Daniel S. Mason, 25, of Volo. Mason's co-defendant, 19-year-old Christopher M. Rossiter, of Marseilles, received a deferred prosecution for possession of marijuana.

Cataldo ordered Rossiter perform 50 hours of community service. If he completes it, the charges will be dismissed, prosecutors said.

On July 12, Woodfield Mall security officers came into contact with Mason and Rossiter, who were sitting in a vehicle on mall property. The security officers smelled burned marijuana and called Schaumburg police, who subsequently arrested the men.
