Mount Prospect man charged with assaulting woman

A Cook County judge set bail at $100,000 Wednesday for a Mount Prospect man charged with home invasion and criminal sexual abuse.

Equilino Jara, 22, could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted on the most serious charge. He must post 10 percent of his bail in order to be released from custody.

Jara is accused of entering the home of his ex-girlfriend through a kitchen window on Aug. 29, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Gbenga Longe. Jara and the woman got into a verbal altercation after he kissed her and forced her to kiss him, Longe said.

Additionally, Jara is accused of pushing the woman onto a couch, breaking her belt and pulling off her clothes, Longe said.

Jara next appears in court on Oct. 23.
