Mount Prospect unveils logo for 100th birthday party

Mount Prospect's 100th birthday is still a few years off, but the party planning is already well underway.

The village's Centennial Commission this week unveiled a logo that will be used to brand and promote the upcoming anniversary.

The purple-and-white logo shows the numerical years 1917 and 2017 inside a diamond shape, with the words "Celebrate 100 Years Mount Prospect" around it. The logo will appear throughout the village during the yearlong anniversary celebration.

The Centennial Commission, a group of residents tasked with planning the anniversary events, reached out to Harper College in Palatine when seeking a logo, according to the village. Three Harper students submitted 12 logo possibilities, and the one that was ultimately chosen came from Tim Buelow, an ex-firefighter pursuing a career in graphic design.

"The diamond, with its four sides, provided a wonderful design opportunity to anchor all of the important text in the logo, while at the same time representing the last 100 years," Buelow said in a news release.

The Mount Prospect Centennial Commission plans to launch a website during the second half of 2015 that will provide information about the anniversary celebration and the village's 100-year history.
