Chicago man pleads guilty to 2011 Addison armed robbery

A Chicago man who was set to go on trial Thursday for the Dec. 20, 2011, armed robbery of an Addison clothing boutique had a change of heart at the last minute.

As his case was called, DeAndre Young, 21, of the 5500 block of West Monroe Street in Chicago, opted to not have his case heard by Judge George Bakalis and instead accepted a plea deal offered by prosecutors.

Young pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated robbery in exchange for prosecutors dropping a second armed robbery charge and two counts of aggravated unlawful restraint.

Assistant State's Attorney Steve Knight said Young, along with two other men, first posed as customers in the fashion boutique at 54 W. Lake St. before they brandished guns.

"They then ushered the three employees to the back room and duct taped them up," Knight said. "They then stole clothing and money from the store."

Court documents state Young also took the wallet and cellphone of at least one of the employees.

Knight said Young was tied to the robbery by fingerprints found on the duct tape used to bind the employees.

Bakalis will sentence Young at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 27. Young faces either probation or between four and 30 years in prison for the robbery.

Authorities said they do not know the identities of the other two men with Young during the robbery.
