Dog hurt, house damaged in Streamwood fire

A dog was seriously injured Wednesday afternooon in a Streamwood house fire, fire officials said.

Streamwood Fire Department responded to the fire in a single-family home just after 4 p.m. on the 1700 block of McKool Avenue.

The blaze started in a lower-level bedroom and spread up the side of the building, causing extensive smoke damage, firefighters said in a news release.

The owner was home at the time and suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene and released.

The family's dog was given oxygen at the scene and taken to Streamwood Animal Hospital and later transferred in serious condition to Golf-Rose Animal Hospital in Schaumburg for further treatment.

The fire remains under investigation with damage estimated at $50,000. The home next door also had damage to its siding.
