Can't tax, spend our way to prosperity

It seems to be carved in stone that political aspirants will forever engage in mud slinging and pie in the sky offerings rather than basing their political platforms on sound economics 101 that meets the needs of today's marketplace.

Our economic planners seem to overlook the fact that this is not the America that once ruled the economic roost for eons by being a major supplier of goods and food products to the world.

The world has now evolved into a global market place with America facing stiff competition from Europe and Asia on the very same products we make. A quick look in any parking lot now makes it difficult to find American made cars and Detroit whose fortunes once set the pace for the American economy is now a rusting deserted ghost town.

Our leadership has yet to wake up to the fact that we just can't tax and spend our way into prosperity. Excessive taxation on manufacturers results in higher priced items in our local market place with consumers buying less resulting in negative job growth and putting us at a big disadvantage in our global economy. Our political leaders may be overlooking one big advantage other older cultures in Europe and Asia have giving them a big edge in world markets and that is paid up homes passed on down to new family generations while the American consumer sees a big part of his earnings going to the monthly mortgage.

President Reagan, who spent many years of his life both as a governor and president, summed up government with this assessment:" Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other end."
