Prospect Heights Police reach out to community

Prospect Heights Police will be holding the last Community Outreach Field Trip of the 2014 Summer Program Sunday, Oct. 5. Volunteers made up of Prospect Heights police officer's, city staff and elected officials and community volunteers will accompany about 40 youths to a Chicago Fire Soccer Game.

This will be the fourth outreach event in a series that included a government awareness day, a trip to Brookfield Zoo and a day trip to the Wheeling Aquatic Center.

The Community Outreach Program was started by the Prospect Heights Police Association to increase community awareness and to provide opportunities for constructive engagement with an underrepresented and disadvantaged area of Prospect Heights. Children interact with volunteers who serve as role models and help to break down barriers of communication in an area that is primarily Latino and Eastern European.

Since the first effort in 2006, the Prospect Heights Fire District, Indian Trails Public Library and the Prospect Heights Park District have joined in. Support also comes from Village Bank, the Prospect Heights Lions Club, The Prospect Heights/Mount Prospect Rotary Club, Village Cycle and Monica's Mexican Restaurant.
