American Academy of Pediatrics wins federal grant

The Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a 5-year, $5.6 million grant to the American Academy of Pediatrics in Elk Grove Village to manage the Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit Program in the five eastern U.S. regions.

The program establishes a nationwide, regionally based network of experts in pediatrics, allergy and immunology, neurodevelopment, toxicology, occupational and environmental medicine, and other specialized areas.

The network serves as a resource to assist health care professionals, parents, schools, community groups, and others with information and guidance on protecting children from environmental hazards.
