Dold is proof that true moderates exist

What does it mean to be "moderate" anymore? I feel that the majority of people I talk to don't know much about the election. We have our doorbell rung every so often by a scared looking high-school kid handing out pamphlets for a candidate, but that brief interaction doesn't tell us much. We see more and more signs popping up in people's yards for a state representative or a congressman, but that doesn't tell us much either.

As a resident of Buffalo Grove, I did notice one candidate stood out at BG Days. On my way to the beer tent, I passed by a booth for Bob Dold. Two young women stood in the booth handing out fliers. As I stopped to grab a jelly bean packet with a big "Dold" logo plastered on it, one of the young ladies asked me, "Have you heard about Bob Dold?" Of course I had heard of him! I'd seen his name. But I took a second to ask more about him. I realized that yes, I had heard of him, yet I didn't know much about him.

She told me that he was voted one of the most independent, bipartisan members of Congress. I couldn't believe it. A moderate member of Congress? Do those people still exist?

When I got back home I did some research for myself. Turns out, Bob really does fall in the middle. His voting record shows that he does not blindly vote along party lines. I can say that's rather impressive. Even though I may not support every member of his party, I'm happy to be a new supporter of Bob, a real moderate, this November.
