Man charged after leading St. Charles police on chase

A 45-year-old man was charged with his fourth DUI after leading St. Charles police on a chase Friday that ended when he crashed into stoplights and utility boxes, according to police.

"Just put the cuffs on me and take me to the station," Richard Oury was quoted as saying to police after he crashed at East Main Street and Fifth Avenue at about 2:05 a.m., according to a police report.

Oury, of the 700 block of Lathem St., Batavia, had to be extricated from his 2001 Cadillac STS after he hit speeds up to 83 mph on South Fifth Avenue, according to court records and a police report.

An officer first clocked Oury at 63 mph in a 45 mph zone, but he did not pull over and eventually sped up.

He lost control of his vehicle, hitting a traffic sign, a tree and two stoplights before spinning around at least three times and hitting two electrical boxes at the southwest corner of East Main Street and Fifth Avenue, the report said.

Oury was charged with felony aggravated DUI, aggravated fleeing and eluding, having no insurance, driving while his license was revoked, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration more than .08, and improper lane use.

St. Charles Police spokeswoman Lisa Blackwell said she could not comment on Oury's BAC.

Oury was being held at the Kane County jail on $50,000 bail, meaning he must post $5,000 to be released while the case is pending. His next court date is Oct. 8.

Oury faces anywhere from probation to seven years in prison if convicted of aggravated DUI.

If sentenced to prison, it won't be Oury's first time there.

He was sentenced to nine years in prison - serving half - for felony armed robbery in Elgin in 1996, according to court records.

He was arrested by Kane County Sheriff's deputies in 1987 on his first DUI charge, and again in Elgin in March 1994 on DUI charges, Kane County court records show.

Information about his third DUI was not immediately available as it may have occurred in another county or state.
