Motorcyclist seriously hurt in Elk Grove crash

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash Monday night in Elk Grove Village that involved a commercial work van, fire officials said.

The crash happened about 7 p.m. at Higgins Road west of Arlington Heights Road near Busse Woods.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet and protective clothing, was thrown from his bike and unconscious at the scene, Fire Batallion Chief Mark Sellers said. The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge.

"It was a single rider and a single person in the vehicle," Sellers said. "Exactly how it occurred, I'm not sure."

The Cook County sheriff's office continues to investigate. The driver of the van was not injured, fire officials said.
