Help available for vets with ALS

In 2008, the Veterans Affairs Department determined that ALS is a service-related disease. As a result, veterans with more than 90 days or more of continuous active duty, and who develop ALS may file a claim for a service-connected disability.

Equally important, if the veteran dies as a result of ALS, his widow is eligible for dependents indemnity compensation.

The Veterans Assistance Commission of Lake County is accredited and certified by the VA General Counsel to assist veterans and their families in the processing of claims with the Veterans Affairs Department. The DIC benefits are tax free and are approximately $1,200 a month.

If you know of a widow who needs our assistance, please have them call the VAC for an appointment. The VAC is established by state law to provide emergency assistance and claims assistance for all Lake County military veterans and their families.
