Teravainen back on ice after 'a little bump'

After suffering an upper-body injury folowing a collision with defenseman Cam Barker at Notre Dame, forward Teuvo Teravainen was back out on the ice for practice Wednesday.

But he will not see any action tonight in the Blackhawks' rematch with the Red Wings at Detroit.

"I had a little bump there," Teravainen told ESPN.com. "I'm alright now. It's just a safe thing to take a couple of days off.

"I'm ready now."

Also not scheduled to play Thursday are Kris Versteeg (flu) and Joaquim Nordstrum (upper body).

Marian Hossa wasn't on the ice Wednesday. It was just a "rest day," according to Hawks coach Joel Quenneville.

Ouch:

A couple of days after taking a puck to the mouth during the Hawks' training camp festival, Patrick Kane was able to joke about the incident following practice on Wednesday.

"It hurt initially, but the first thing I was worried about was making sure all my teeth were there," Kane said. "What are you going to do about it? It's part of the game.

"Hopefully it makes me look a little bit tougher."

After the incident Monday, Kane received some stitches before taking the ice again. He wasn't the only Hawk drawing blood. Patrick Sharp also had to leave the ice after being clipped by a stick.

"They both got souvenirs," Joel Quenneville said. "It was nice to see them return."

Rumorville:

TSN's Bob Mckenzie reported that the Hawks are dangling defenseman Nick Leddy, but any team that wants the young defenseman in a trade must also be willing to take veteran Kris Versteeg in the deal.

With the Hawks a couple million dollars over the salary cap, there's no doubt the rumors will continue until the day a deal is actually finalized.

Asked if not knowing who's going to be traded and when has affected the way he goes about his business, Joel Quenneville responded, "it hasn't changed a bit."

Making an impression:

Cody Bass led the Hawks with 4 hits in the preseason opener Tuesday and also received a fighting major,

Phillip Danault had 2 hits, blocked a pair of shots and had a 67 percent success rate on faceoffs.

He said it:

"We didn't score too many overtime goals last year. Hopefully we can change that this year."
