Elgin crash sends two to hospital

Two people were injured in an early morning two-car crash along Dundee Avenue in Elgin Wednesday, police said.

The crash occurred around 5:20 a.m. in the 1300 block of Dundee Avenue. A Chevy pickup truck traveling southbound on Dundee near the intersection of Stewart Avenue swerved onto the oncoming northbound lanes and struck a Ford Contour head on, police said.

The male driver of the Chevy was trying avoid a collision with another car in the southbound lanes, Elgin Police Cmdr. Dan O'Shea said.

The 48-year-old male driver of the Ford and his male passenger, 66, both of Elgin, were taken to a nearby hospital with "incapacitating but not life-threatening" injuries, O'Shea said.

The driver of the Chevy, Reynaldo Hernandez, 39, of Carpentersville, was cited for improper lane usage and driving without proof of valid insurance, O'Shea said.
