Elgin man flees police, crashes into car, pole

An Elgin man was being held on $100,000 bond Monday after he struck another vehicle, a utility pole and a garage while fleeing from police, police said.

Andrew S. Quezada, 24, of the 200 block of Gifford Street, was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding resulting in bodily injury; two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding with property damage exceeding $300; leaving the scene of an injury accident; resisting arrest; driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of accident involving damage to a vehicle, Cmdr. Dan O'Shea said in a news release.

The other driver was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. ComEd restored power within about an hour.

An Elgin officer saw a Dodge Durango traveling 64 mph in a 50 mph zone on southbound Randall Road at about 1:45 p.m. Sunday, O'Shea said.

The officer activated his emergency lights and siren, but Quezada increased his speed and the officer lost sight of him, police said.

The officer was stopped at the intersection of Randall and Hopps roads when he saw flashes of light coming from the ComEd power lines along Hopps Road just east of Randall Road.

He then saw the Dodge Durango traveling east on Hopps Road, crossing Randall Road in front of the officer and attempt to turn onto northbound Umdenstock, where he crashed into the garage. Quezada fled on foot but was apprehended a few minutes later, according to police.

Police said they later determined that Quezada struck another car and a ComEd pole at Hopps and Randall roads.
