Forrest leads WW South at Wheeling

Wheaton Warrenville South senior Ryan Forrest recorded back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 at Chevy Chase Country Club en route to a personal-best golf round of 73 on Saturday at the Wheeling Invitational.

"My putting was unreal today," said Forrest, a two-year varsity player.

Forrest connected on a 12-footer for his birdie on the par-5 15th hole, and he sank a 10-footer for the birdie on the par-3 16th.

"I had good tempo on my lag putts getting the ball to the hole which was nice," added Forrest, who was 1-over par.

Tigers coach Jimmy Sellick called it a "great" day for Forrest.

"He played well and he has the ability to rebound," Selleck said. "I know he stayed focused and with that he was able to settle into his game. He played well and finished."

The Tigers finished with a team score of 315, good for an eighth-place finish in the competitive 25-team field which was led by Loyola (300) and Barrington (300).

Completing the Tigers' scorecard were Brian McCaffrey with a 78, Will Kelly at 79, Tommy Dare with an 82 and Sean McCaffrey shooting an 86.
