Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment

A team from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP) will be in Bensenville on September 29th and 30th to determine if the Bensenville Police Department should receive the organization's Tier Level 1 accreditation.

The police department will be judged on the basis of 71 separate ILEAP standards regarding administration, operations, personnel, and training. The department has been revising its policies and procedures during the past year in order to meet the standards set by ILEAP. In order to complete the accreditation process, the policies and procedures must not only reflect the standards established by ILEAP, but the files that are developed must show that the department is following its own policies and procedures.

In order to complete the process, two ILEAP assessors, Sergeant John Lawson of Roselle PD and Sergeant Jon Jackubowski of Channahon PD, will conduct an on-site assessment of the Bensenville Police Department. Agency personnel, elected officials, and members of the community are invited to offer comments during a public information call in session on September 29th between the hours of 1:30-2:30 p.m. at 630 350-3455. Telephone comments are limited to 5 minutes and must address the department's ability to meet the ILEAP standards.

Accreditation will demonstrate that the department has achieved a level of professionalism among our law enforcement peers and validates the methods in which department members provide service to the residents and general public in our community. In addition to improving the agencies relationship with the community, accreditation makes the agency more accountable for its actions limiting liability and risk exposure.
