Judson seeks submissions for faith-based film festival

Judson University in Elgin is accepting film submissions for the 11th annual Imago Film Festival to be held March 24-28.

The festival showcases independent films dealing with faith issues and emphasizing image and story.

The early deadline for submission is Dec. 1 with a fee of $30. Late submissions may be sent in by Feb. 1 with a fee of $40.

Submissions must be less than 30 minutes in length in DVD or Blu-ray format and deal with images and stories about the spiritual journey of the human experience through any genre. Filmmakers may submit multiple entries.

A panel of local university film and media professors, as well as professionals in the field will judge the entries.

This year's film festival will screen original films and feature notable speakers. There also will be film discussions, workshops, and an awards ceremony. Prizes for winning films are as follows: Best of Show, $1,000; First Prize (1-15 minutes), $400; First Prize (15-30 minutes), $400; and Audience Choice Award, $200.

U-46 communications staff earns state awards:

Elgin Area School District U-46's communications staff members earned five awards as part of the 2014 Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association's Communication Contest.

Four U-46 publications and one video were selected as winning entries and will be displayed for communications professionals at other districts throughout the state at an award ceremony later this month.

The winning entries include:

• 2013 Annual Report highlighting district accomplishments

• Parent Newsletter distributed monthly to schools

• Transformations Video demonstrating the success of U-46's 10 restructuring schools

• U-46 Recruitment Brochure used at job fairs

• U-46 district website relaunch to improve branding and online communication and community engagement

The publications and website relaunch were developed by communications specialist Abby Milone and the Transformations Video was developed and produced by communications specialist Shannon Mortimer.

"Communicating with more than 26,000 U-46 families is an important responsibility and I know our team goes above and beyond to provide top-notch communications and community relations programs," U-46 Superintendent José Torres said in a news release.
