Politicking was in poor taste

The village of Wauconda had a Sept. 11 memorial service last Thursday to commemorate the 13th year since the horrific tragedy. It would have been a fitting tribute if not for the presence of Evelyn Sanguinetti, Bruce Rauner's running mate and candidate for lieutenant governor giving a speech and also laying a wreath.

Inviting a party candidate to come to an event as sacred as a Sept. 11 memorial because the leader of the community supports the party is not representing the entire community.

This was a village-sponsored event in that there was an invitation to the public to attend on the village e-news and village Facebook page. There were many village employees, village vehicles and village officials in attendance.

Politicking at an event such as this is deplorable, immoral, and should be illegal. A leader of a community is voted in to represent everyone in that community. Not just those that voted for him, agree with him, or are of the same political party.
