Savers thrift stores in Lake Zurich and St. Charles closing Tuesday

A pair of suburban thrift stores that raise money for charity will close Tuesday.

The Savers stores in Lake Zurich, at 945 S. Rand Road, and St. Charles, at 3880 E. Main St., are locking their doors for good at the end of the business day, employees at both locations said.

Customers can get 50 percent off the price of most items at the two stores on Tuesday.

Savers has eight other locations in the suburbs that will remain open, including those in Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, Naperville, Carol Stream, Crystal Lake, Downers Grove, Franklin Park and Orland Park.

The chain also will mark the grand opening of a new store in Glenview on Thursday.

Savers, which was founded in 1954 and is based Bellevue, Washington, has stores across the U.S. and in Canada and Australia. The company sells clothes and household items collected from the community by nonprofit agencies, paying those agencies based on the number of boxes and bags of merchandise they've collected.

Proceeds from sales at all Savers stores in the Chicago area benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago.

The Savers thrift store in Lake Zurich will close Tuesday, along with the chain's store in St. Charles. Other Savers in the suburbs, including locations in Arlington Heights and Naperville, will remain open, and a new store is holding a grand opening this week in Glenview.
