Boomers win 6-2 to even series

O'FALLON, Mo. - The Schaumburg Boomers stole homefield advantage Sunday night with a 6-2 victory over the River City Rascals to even the Frontier League championship series at a game apiece.

Schaumburg took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second innings. Tony Delmonico hit a double to left-center with two outs in the first, scoring Alexi Colon. Bobby Martin reached on an error to knock in Gerard Hall in the second. River City's Jon Myers tied the game with solo homers in the second and fifth against Justin Erasmus, the Schaumburg starter.

Hall connected on a 3-run homer with two outs in the sixth to break the deadlock, his second homer of the playoffs. Colon added insurance with an RBI single in the eighth. Erasmus worked 5⅔ innings in his first start of the playoffs to earn the win, striking out three. Clark Labitan, Kevin Brahney and Dexter Price combined to finish the victory.

The bottom of the lineup combined for 5 hits, 3 runs and 4 RBI. Michael Valadez went 3-for-4, while Hall drove in 3 runs. Schaumburg finished with 9 hits.

The Boomers (61-35, 4-2) won three times on the road this week. The best-of-five series shifts to Boomers Stadium on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
