2 hurt in boating accident on Fox River near Cary

Two men were injured in a boating accident Saturday night on the Fox River near Cary, fire officials said.

One was critically injured and airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Wauconda Fire District Lt. Patrick Kane said. The other suffered minor injuries and was taken to Condell via ambulance, Kane said.

The motorboat crashed into the shore on the 5900 block of Beachway Street, roughly a quarter mile south from the Broken Oar marina and bar, Kane said.

"It came up out of the water and was almost standing straight up," said Kane, adding that the shore was "quite steep."

Wauconda firefighters were called to the crash just before 6 p.m.

One of the passengers told a firefighter that there was a third person on the boat, but that report was unfounded after rescue crews searched the area, Kane said.
