Minivan, garbage truck crash near Sugar Grove

Two people are hospitalized after a crash Friday morning between a garbage truck and minivan near Sugar Grove.

The driver of a Chevrolet Uplander, a 44-year-old woman from Somonauk, was flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with serious injuries, according to a news release from the Kane County sheriff's office.

The driver of the garbage truck, a 59-year-old man from Cortland, was treated for minor injuries at Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora.

According to the sheriff's department, the minivan, which was traveling east on Route 30 near Dugan Road at approximately 7:30 a.m. when it entered the westbound lane. The driver of the garbage truck, which was heading west, turned into the eastbound lane to avoid a head-on crash. The two vehicles then collided in the eastbound lane.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team. Route 30 between Dugan and Dauberman roads was closed for about three hours.

No tickets had been issued as of late Friday morning.
