Missing woman discovered in Des Plaines pond

Des Plaines police are conducting a death investigation after finding a missing 51-year-old woman floating face down in a pond Thursday afternoon outside the Prairie Lakes Community Center.

Police Chief Bill Kushner said the woman, a Des Plaines resident, was discovered in the pond at 2:52 p.m., and subsequently removed by firefighters. Though she showed no signs of life, paramedics tried to revive her. The victim was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she was pronounced dead at 4:10 p.m.

Kushner said family members reported the woman missing about 1 p.m. after she failed to show up for work at her job in Des Plaines. Police were able to pin her cellphone to a location near Prairie Lakes, 515 E. Thacker St.

Police said they don't consider the death suspicious, but were still investigating the cause Thursday afternoon.

Authorities weren't releasing the victim's identity while they notified next of kin.
