Boomers even series with 14-4 win

MARION - The Schaumburg Boomers forced a deciding game with the Southern Illinois Miners with a 14-4 victory Wednesday night in Game 2 of the Frontier League divisional series.

The Boomers wasted no time in jumping on starter Anthony Montefusco, who had allowed just 4 runs in 4 starts during the regular season.

Schaumburg put 3 runs on the board in the second after loading the bases with no outs. Tony Delmonico nailed a 2-run homer in the third to extend the lead to 5-1. Jordan Dean added a 2-run triple as part of a 5-run inning for the Boomers, who set a team playoff record for runs and hits.

Eddie Cody worked 7 innings to earn the win, allowing just 3 runs. Justin Erasmus finished the game by working the final 2 innings.

Schaumburg put the game out of reach with 2 runs in the eighth and 3 in the ninth. Eight batters posted hits for the Boomers as the team finished with 16. Justin Vasquez and Gerard Hall each had 3. Vasquez homered in the eighth. Eight individuals also scored a run.

Schaumburg (61-35, 2-1) meets Southern Illinois in the deciding contest Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
