Statement on concealed carry was absurd
In response to Mr. Guy's letter in the Opinion page of Aug. 30, I am not sure if I am more offended with his stereotyping as a reason to carry a gun or the fact that the Daily Herald printed his letter. I am pretty much on the fence when it comes to concealed carry. If you think carrying a gun provides security, then get a license. If you think carrying a gun is an accident in waiting, then that is your choice.
But Mr. Guy's characterization that opting out of concealed carry is a choice to be a victim is absurd as no one wishes to be a victim and, sadly enough, it is usually a matter of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, not from toting a gun or not. Mr. Guy's letter was just an opinion I could agree or not agree with until that last offensive sentence. Perhaps Mr. Guy and his daughter should stay away from the South Side. That way South Siders can feel as safe as Mr. Guy and his daughter.
