Change of ownership of Maryville hospital in Des Plaines in progress

The transfer of ownership of the Maryville Behavioral Health Hospital to a for-profit firm is scheduled for Sept. 30, officials said this week after the move recently won approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board.

New York-based 2014 Health LLC has offered Maryville $23 million to take over the struggling hospital, located at 555 Wilson Lane, which was $6 million in the red last fiscal year and $4 million the year before. Maryville officials in March announced plans to close the 125-bed facility, but reversed that plan after 2014 Health officials inked a letter of intent to purchase the facility in June.

“The change of ownership is moving forward and in progress,” said Richard Kresch, president and CEO of 2014 Health. “We've got a few more steps to be done. We're hoping to have it all done before the end of the month.”

That includes getting a new operating license, Kresch said.

The company's plans include continuing to treat mentally ill children and adolescents, but also expanding care to adults.

Maryville bought the 93,000-square-foot facility, the former Forest Hospital, in 1999.
