Arlington Heights man charged with shooting at vehicle

A man who admitted he was a street gang member was charged after shooting at a vehicle Sunday in Waukegan, authorities said.

Jose Guzman, 18, of the 1500 block of North Windsor in Arlington Heights, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member and aggravated discharge of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, according to a Waukegan Police Department news release.

Early Sunday morning, a sergeant had been in an unmarked police car around Glen Rock Avenue and Jackson Street in Waukegan. He saw a man, now identified as Guzman, walking and then talking to "unknown subjects in a black SUV style vehicle," according to police.

Guzman then took out a handgun and started firing at the vehicle, which drove away, police said. The sergeant pursued and arrested Guzman. No injuries were reported.

Guzman admitted he was a street gang member, according to the news release, and he will appear in court on Sept. 24.
