Good time to review the Constitution

The Constitution has guided our country well, safeguarding our freedom and rights. But "eternal vigilance is the price of liberty" and "we the people" must know our Constitution and then use our voices and votes to hold accountable the officials we elect (and those they appoint).

Constitution Week, Sept. 17-23, is an excellent time to review that brief document to fix in our minds what it really says and to sharpen sensitivity to deviation from it. One can read it at the government website www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/constitution.

Hopefully, parents and teachers are coming up with meaningful and interesting ways to teach children and youth the content of the Constitution, to bring them to a vital appreciation of its wise guidelines, and to train them to defend it.
