Pies fly at Animal Hospital of Lake Villa open house

Submitted by Animal Hospital of Lake Villa

On Saturday, Aug. 16, Animal Hospital of Lake Villa hosted its third annual open house.

The event featured rescue groups, food, face painting, a search and rescue demonstration, a training demonstration, raffles and fun. It was all free and open to hospital clients as a way for clients and potential clients to meet the staff.

The highlight of this year's open house was when Dr. McGinniss got a pie in the face. Earlier this year, in order to get more Facebook likes, Dr. McGinniss promised he would take a pie to the face if the hospital reached 600 likes. It was suggested jokingly, but clients were more than up for the challenge and succeeded.

When the hospital had to decide who would get to pie McGinniss, hospital office manager Marilyn had the genius idea to raffle off the opportunity.

The raffle tickets sold for $1 each. There were other prizes like baskets or heartworm prevention, but the most popular prize was definitely the opportunity to pie Dr. Ed.

Terry Kaminski volunteered to get pied in the face as well. Luckily there was an extra banana cream pie that client Julie Richardson had brought. Terry offered to get pied in the face by the first person to donate $20 to the cause. Someone stepped up and both Dr. Ed and Terry had to wipe pie from their faces.
