Algonquin man arrested on heroin-related charges

An Algonquin man has been arrested after law enforcement officials found heroin in a vehicle, police said.

Brandon P. Trina, 20, was charged with unlawful possession of heroin, hypodermic syringes and paraphernalia and unlawful delivery of heroin, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office news release.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Task Force learned on Aug. 22 that a 1999 Nissan Maxima containing heroin would be coming through the area, police said.

Authorities made a traffic stop for the vehicle around Stonegate Road and Robinwood Drive in Algonquin.

A K-9 Officer with the Crystal Lakes Police Department then assisted. Deputies found about two grams of heroin "packaged for resale" and hypodermic syringes after searching the vehicle.

The heroin's estimated street value was about $400. Trina has a Thursday, Aug. 28 court date.
