Saturday 5K in Batavia a fundraiser for Casey's Safe Haven dog rescue

Join the first Casey's Safe Haven 5K Wag-a-Thon on Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Peg Bond Center, 151 Island Ave., Batavia.

The event is one of the main fundraisers this year and they need walkers! Consider bringing your dog, your family and friends. Registration is $25 and you receive a T-shirt. The walk-a-thon will help the organization pay down veterinary bills for the dogs and puppies they have rescued this summer.

So far they have saved three dogs with broken legs that have needed orthopedic care, nine heartworm positive dogs that have now been treated, one puppy that is blind and deaf, five dogs that were 9-plus years old and needed extensive medical care, and more than 20 moms with their puppies. This is in addition to the adult dogs that have come in emaciated and needing dental work, as well as spay and neuter, shots and microchipping. This is a great way to spend a Saturday morning and earn a T-shirt to boot!

If you have adopted from Casey's Safe Haven Dog Rescue, they would love to have you join the walk and bring your pup for updated photos. They will have a professional photographer there for pictures.

For those of you that are competitive you can win prizes by asking others to sponsor your walk. (You do not have to raise additional money to walk) When you register you make a personal webpage to share with friends, family and co-workers. There are prizes for top pledge earners. But again, you can walk with only your $25 registration fee!

The Batavia Fire Department will have a truck on site and will be handing out books to the children, There will be a dog adoption tent so you can meet the many rescued dogs and puppies you will be helping

The walk will be along the Fox River and only two walks were allowed this year. Safe Haven received one of the spots; so help them make this a success.
