Daily Herald report

Des Plaines Elementary District 62 will host a community event Tuesday to kick off the district's new professional development program, D62 Teacher Leadership Corps.

Officials say the program will train teachers about how to integrate educational technologies and digital media into classroom instruction, and Tuesday's event is designed to garner parent and community support for the effort.

A keynote presentation will be given by Karen Beerer, vice president of Discovery Education, which is coordinating District 62's professional development program. A panel of business leaders will discuss the skills students need to be college and career ready.

The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Chippewa Middle School, 123 N. 8th Ave. in Des Plaines.
