Off-year election is political theater

2014 has brought us an interesting spectacle called an off-year election.

Of course, any election in Illinois is always off something, like off the charts or off the wall. Every candidate will make you think his or her opponent has led a completely unacceptable life.

All candidates will ask their opponent: How many folks in your party have gone off to jail? Most Democrats can't count that high and Republicans forget.

This year, one of the fun things to watch is the race for governor. I just learned one of the candidates shipped jobs off to China, and I already knew the other guy is shipping jobs to Indiana, Wisconsin and Idaho. One guy is a billionaire, so he can afford to ship them farther.

Elections have become great theater. I don't think that is what our Founding Fathers intended.
