Free program for seniors with chronic ailments

The village of Hoffman Estates offers the return of "Take Charge of Your Health," a free program for seniors who have chronic health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, arthritis, hypertension, or heart disease, or for individuals who live with someone who has a chronic health condition.

The program will be offered each Friday, beginning August 29, and running through Oct. 3. Take Charge of Your Health will be at the Hoffman Estates Branch of the Schaumburg Township Library, 1550 Hassell Road, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is required.

The Stanford University-developed program covers a wide variety of topics, including physical activity, sleep, weight management, and relaxation techniques. Class participants learn to use a variety of self-management tools to help them Take Charge of their health.

Class facilitators Catherine Dagian, RN, from Hoffman Estates Health and Human Services, and Valerie Wilson, have been trained to conduct this program. This program is sponsored by Age Options, the Illinois Department of Health, and Hoffman Estates. For questions about the program, call (847) 781-4850.
