Deadline to apply for Rotary scholarships is Aug. 15

The Rotary Club of St. Charles is seeking student scholarship applications, postmarked no later than Friday, Aug. 15. Students planning to attend or currently attending a college or university are encouraged to apply. Scholarship guidelines and the application are available on the Rotary Club of St. Charles website, rotarystc.org.

There is not an established minimum or maximum number of scholarships awarded nor a maximum amount given. The amount and number of scholarships is based upon the availability of funds. Scholarships are supported by fundraisers and voluntary contributions.

Applicant must be a St. Charles area high school graduate, GED or nontraditional student entering a college or university. Direct relatives of Rotarians are not eligible for this scholarship.

Applicants will be evaluated based upon the following criteria: completion of application; financial need; community involvement; extra curricular activities; grade-point average; and cultural experience.

Applications are available at rotarystc.org, or by emailing Jim Martin, jmartin@jknet.com. Completed applications must be mailed to St. Charles Rotary Club, 609 S. Sixth Ave., St. Charles, IL 60174.

Only complete applications with a student transcript will be considered and reviewed.

After the selection process, scholarship recipients will be recognized during a future Thursday Noon Rotary meeting at The Office, 201 E. Main St., St. Charles.

The mission of Rotary is to "provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders." In support of education and vocational service, the St. Charles Rotary Club in 2014 has awarded more than $16,000 in scholarships for those attending or planning to attend a college or university.
