Warrenville man named County Fair person of year

SPRINGFIELD -- DuPage County Fair board member Jim McGuire has been named the 2014 Outstanding County Fair Person of the Year.

The Warrenville resident has served for more than a decade on the DuPage County Fair board.

He was honored Friday at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield during County Fair and Horse Racing Day festivities.

DuPage officials credit McGuire with helping the fair increase attendance while reducing expenses. They also cite his character and work ethic as reasons for bestowing upon him the award.

The Illinois State Fair, a 10-day celebration of agriculture, features concerts, horse racing, livestock competitions, rides and games.

It runs through Aug. 17.
