Metra restores full service this morning on BNSF line

Metra riders whose rush-hour commute home imploded Thursday afternoon after two people were killed on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Line should only see minor delays this morning, according to the Metra website.

Metra had canceled four trains scheduled to arrive at Union Station between 7 a.m. and 8:17 a.m., but announced at 5:30 a.m. that full service had been restored.

Trains Thursday night were delayed as long as three hours in some cases on the line that stretches from Chicago to Aurora, and a number of trains were canceled.

Officials are still investigating the fatalities.

Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said the two victims were a man and a woman.

The incident occurred after the train left the La Grange station and was a mile west of the Western Avenue station. The tracks at that point are elevated.
