Antioch man faces charges in identity theft and burglary

A 21-year-old man has been charged with burglary and unlawful use of a credit card after a joint investigation by the Round Lake Park and Round Lake Beach police departments, authorities said Wednesday.

Rolando Hernandez, of Antioch, was also charged with identity theft after his arrest Monday, Round Lake Beach Deputy Chief Michael Scott said.

Several vehicles were burglarized in Round Lake Park and Round Lake Beach between July 23 and July 27, and credit cards taken from the vehicles had been used at businesses in Round Lake Beach, Scott said.

Video surveillance from the businesses that were reviewed by police showed Hernandez using the stolen credit cards to make purchases, Scott said.

He added that several stolen items were recovered by police during the investigation, including a piece of identification from one of the victims.

Hernandez was taken to the Lake County jail and is held on $25,000 bond, Scott said.

People are urged to lock their doors at night, as most vehicle burglaries occur to unlocked vehicles, he added.
