Float your way to the Barracuda Swim Team tryouts

The Schaumburg Park District's competitive swim team will host tryouts for the upcoming fall season.

The team's season begins Sept. 8 and swims until Nov. 21. Children ages 5 to 18 may try out for a spot in the 11-week program from 4 to 6 p.m., Aug. 29 at the Water Works, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. Practices are held at Schaumburg High School and the YMCA.

"The Barracudas Swim Team is a fun program with plenty of chances to compete throughout the season," said Stacy Johnson, assistant aquatics supervisor. "With 200 swimmers each season, it is the biggest team we have ever had."

The Barracudas program offers skill development and competition for young swimmers. Participants will be assessed and placed in one of five levels during tryouts. Each level is organized by age and emphasizes different concentrations and abilities. Ages are used as guidelines.

Meets are held Wednesdays and Saturdays. Swimmers are expected to attend at least two meets and championship competitions throughout the season. Team members are required to buy a team suit at registration where order forms will be provided.
