Palatine hosts Arts in the Park on Saturday

While another part of downtown Palatine rocks this weekend with the annual Rockin' the Blocks fest, residents seeking a calmer cultural experience can head to nearby Towne Square for Saturday's Arts in the Park event.

Presented by Northwest Special Recreation Association, Arts in the Park will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the square, located at 150 W. Palatine Road. The event celebrates the arts through live entertainment and art projects for children of all ages.

Staff members from NWSRA will be on hand with a variety of booths featuring many different hands-on art projects. They also have adaptive art equipment to demonstrate how children with special needs can participate in arts programs.

The day's entertainment schedule includes Peter Jump (acoustic guitar), at 10:30 a.m.; Margie Dziadzka (guitar), 11:15 a.m.; Amy Bachman and the PPD Summer Strings, noon; Flamenco Exprisivo (dancing), 12:45 p.m.; and Cory Bollettino (synthesizer), 1:30 p.m.

The event is free for all ages; registration can be done in advance through NWSRA, 3000 W. Central Road, Rolling Meadows. Registration also will be accepted at the event. For more information, contact NWSRA at (847) 392-2848.
