20-year-old killed in Pingree Grove crash

A Pingree Grove man was killed early Thursday in a head-on crash on Route 20 near Route 47, police said.

Ian Halasik, 20, was pronounced dead at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin following the 12:15 a.m. crash, police said.

An unidentified driver from Ohio was airlifted from the scene to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries, police said.

A full-size pickup and a full-size cargo van collided about three-quarters of a mile west of Route 47. It is not known which vehicles belonged to which drivers. There were no other occupants in either vehicle, police said.

The roadway reopened at 5 a.m. Thursday.

Pingree Grove police and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (847) 464-4600.
