Prince of Peace hosts 'Seeds to Succeed' literacy event

Prince of Peace United Methodist Church is gearing up for its third annual "Seeds to Succeed-Growing Literacy in our Community."

This communitywide event will provide children who attend District 59 schools with tools they need to grow, learn and succeed in school.

Prince of Peace will be collecting new and gently used books through Saturday, Aug. 2. Books can be placed in donation boxes at Elk Grove Village Library and at several Elk Grove churches. The books should be suitable for elementary or junior high students and may be in English or Spanish.

Backpacks and school supplies also are being collected.

On Aug. 2, volunteers will gather at Prince of Peace Church to organize and box donations for distribution.

Community members can get involved in several ways. First, they can donate books and backpacks at the Elk Grove Village Library or Prince of Peace Church at 1400 Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove Village. To make arrangements for drop-off at Prince of Peace other than on Sunday mornings, please call the church office at (847) 439-0668 or email office@popumc.com.

Second, volunteers also are needed to help on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the church. Individuals or groups from organizations can volunteer to organize and box books, school supplies and backpacks for distribution. Those who wish to volunteer should contact the church office at (847) 439-0668.
