Rock the Block returns to Lake Zurich on Sept. 13

The village of Lake Zurich will again host its downtown block party, Rock The Block, from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13.

Rock The Block is an all-ages, traditional street dance, where partygoers are invited to dine, dance and (re) discover downtown Lake Zurich.

Three bands take the stage for an evening of music, food and fun for adults. Young partygoers can visit the children's area in Lions Park for free face-painting and balloon art sponsored by Lake Zurich Tire and Auto.

The event will be held at approximately 70 E. Main St. Main Street will be closed from Church Street to Old Rand beginning at noon on the day of the event.

Mayor Tom Poynton, village trustees and staff, local community leaders, and the public will attend.

The night's musical entertainment will play on a covered stage, sponsored by Midwest Motors, erected on the corner of Old Rand Road and Main Street.

Three bands, sponsored by McDonald's restaurants, will perform from 5 to 11 p.m.

The night begins when local favorite Alex & The Allstars hits the stage at 5 p.m., then ARRA switches it up at 7 p.m. At 9 p.m., Friction will take fans home with its unique brand of classic rock.

Admission to the event is free, but attendees are asked to donate five unopened, nonperishable food items to help restock the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.

Anyone donating food will receive a raffle ticket to win prizes. Additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase.

A donation drop off area, sponsored by 1-800-Pack-Rat, will be set up on Main Street by the Lions Club.

Volunteers from the U.S. Navy will be on hand to sort donated items and LZHS National Honor Society students will assist in selling bottled water. All proceeds will benefit the food pantry.

Element food trucks and nine local restaurants will be along Main Street selling a variety of cuisine, as well as desserts and snacks.

In addition to a tent selling wine and Mike's Hard Lemonade products, three types of beer and Angry Orchard Hard Cider will be sold in multiple locations on the street. Water, coffee and other nonalcoholic beverages will be available for sale from most food vendors.

Glow in the dark beer cups will again be provided by Martin Enterprises.

No outside alcohol is allowed and those wishing to consume alcohol will need to have their I.D. checked and purchase a wristband for $1. Wristbands are provided by The Ela Coalition Against Youth Substance Abuse.

Beer tickets are available for purchase at $3 each, four for $10 or seven for $20. All other alcoholic beverages are $5.

No outside food, beverages, or coolers will be allowed into the event.
