Daily Herald report

Mount Prospect police and fire departments teamed up with the Oberweis Dairy store at 80 E. Northwest Hwy. on Monday to raise funds for public safety education and activities.

Police officers and firefighters scooped ice cream for customers while talking about 911 calls. The fire and police departments have each created a Safety Sundae that comes with a chance to win a fire or police T-shirt.

Emergency dispatcher Deborah Moritz was on hand to help spread the safety message. "We are a 9-1-1 community," she said. "Any time you need police or fire to come for any reason, go ahead and dial 9-1-1."

A to-be-determined percentage of all Monday Oberweis sales from the event will go towards public education training for the Mount Prospect Fire Department.
