Arts in Bartlett awards scholarship

Congratulations to the 2014 Arts in Bartlett Scholarship winner, Andrew Brhel of Bartlett.

Brhel just graduated from Bartlett High School, where he was active with the Men of Note, Men's Choir, played viola in the Chamber Orchestra, and was in the high school musicals all four years, two of those years in leading roles. He was chosen as a vocalist in the IMEA District IX Chorus, and a violist for the Fox Valley Music Festival three years. He also was in a fall play, group interpretation, improv troupe, drama club, four years in cross country, school honor roll all four years, in National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society and serves as a Bartlett High School Peer Leader.

In the community, Brhel was seven years in Boy Scouts, achieving Eagle Scout Rank in 2012. Some of his projects included bluebird houses, a bird sanctuary for Sunrise Education Center in Bartlett, and wishing wells for local churches.

Brhel has been in Bartlett Park District Theatre for four shows, Children's Theatre of Elgin for three shows, Fox Valley Theatre Co, Elgin Summer Theatre and Hinsdale Stage Door Theatre (including current June shows). He has auditioned and been accepted into the music department at Elmhurst College, where he intends to sing and play viola, and major in music and computer science, with a career goal of music for game design.

Brhel states, "The arts have more than influenced my life, they have become my life."
